After five years of fundraising, a new building was erected on The Active Life campus in LaGrange, Georgia. This 6,100 sq. ft. fitness facility was opened to the public on July 21, 2009. It was built adjacent to the existing 11,000 sq. ft. structure, connected by a porte-cochere (covered drop-off). With an uncompromising dedication to the health and wellness of older adults in Troup County, it features a 3,000 sq. ft. open room for fitness classes, dance activities and health seminars. This large room, which can accommodate up to 200 people, may be subdivided into three smaller rooms with the use of two movable walls that hide away when not in use. These rooms are fully equipped with a state of the art sound system with wireless microphones, multimedia projectors, electric screens that descend from the ceiling and wireless internet available to the public throughout the facility. An adjoining fitness machine room is equipped with eight pieces of exercise equipment (especially suited for older adults) and two large screen televisions. A living room near the main entrance is also equipped with large screen televisions that are connected to two Wii consoles. The Wellness Center also features a special catering style kitchen designed for parties and potluck dinners for the groups and clubs that utilize this facility. With a fitness counseling office, large restrooms, and spacious storage rooms, this building is ready to adapt to the changing needs of older adults for many years.
